When it rains...

It pours. My family's had some rough times lately. My momma had her last eye surgery on Friday, and thankfully, after all four, we don't think she's lost any of her vision. I think she's just being stubborn and trying to do things too quickly (like reading blogs :) ) and then gets a nasty headache. I put a lot of thanks on our blog friends. I know your prayers did good!

We found out on Friday that my biological dad had a massive heart attack. He's in critical but stable condition in the hospital, and I don't think he's going anywhere soon. There are a lot of machines and medicines keeping him going now. The MD basically kicked everyone out for the rest of the week so that he can rest and get his heart rate stable before they try taking him off of his balloon pump (helping relieve some of the pressure on every other heart beat). He had 4 stents placed in his aortic valve, and if they work when they take out the pump then they just have to monitor his stents. If he isn't doing ok when they take it out, they'll need to do a valve replacement. Anyways, we'll see what happens.

I haven't had the greatest relationship with him the last 10 years of my life. He left my momma and brothers and me when I was a Freshman in highschool and he was in and out (mostly out if I'm honest with myself) for most of these last 10 years. To be even more honest with myself, I had finally decided that my life was full and happy and I was loved by so many people that I wan't going to allow myself to be hurt by him anymore 6 months before my wedding. That didn't mean, however, that I forgot how much I loved and missed the man he was my whole childhood. Maybe (and I'm trying to not get my hopes up) if he makes it through this it will be a turning point in our lives. We'll see.

Now, for something fun... I don't remember if I ever introduced you guys to this project.
This is what I started with. Pretty place mats from World Market and Caron Simply Soft Yarn...
An here's where I am now...

It's going to be a table runner for my dining room table. The pattern is from a Japanese crochet book I bought awhile back ISBN#978-4-415-10365-5. The charts are really easy to follow and the patterns are so pretty. I really love how it's turning out. I think I'll back it with some red felt maybe? Whattcha guys think?

I hope the best for you and your family!! I got divorced after 20 years of marriage to and my ex-husband and he hasn't been a huge part of my boys lives, although he has been with our daughter. I know it is very painful for my boys and it kills me! I hope you and your dad can find some peace and some kind of a relationship as he recovers!

I love the colors of your table runner! They are beautiful! You are inspiring me to start a new crochet project.

Hugs,
Sherry

Hope things go well for your Dad. Maybe then it will be time to mend the relationship. If not, as you say you have a whole lot of love around you anyway.

I love you and you said it all perfectly. Now, make me one of those runners in pink, robins eggs blue and red and make it extremely stain repellent. LOL

We are keeping you and your family in our prayers! Sometimes it does take a big event in our lives to have a change of heart for the better. Hope your Bio-Dad will realize that! You always have something on the hook! As always, I can't wait to see the finished product!

Very pretty colors for the runner!

Thank you for the nice comment you left on my blog. : ) I'm very sorry to hear about your dad.

My dad died of a heart attack (while hospitalized after a series of strokes) several years ago, and it was/is very hard. Hearing about your dad leaving your family makes me thankful that I always had my dad around.

My oldest brother married a woman (his first wife) with two boys (they were babies at the time), and had a third son with her. He raised the two older boys (they're 15 and 19 now and his biological son is 13) like his own kids. They got divorced about 10 years ago, and his ex-wife got legal custody of all 3 kids.

Even so, the two youngest (oldest is in the Air Force) basically live with him and his new wife (he got remarried last year), but he still has to (and does pay) pay his ex-wife a small fortune every month in child support for his biological son.

His ex-wife hasn't appreciated any of it, and has done everything in her power to keep him from seeing the kids, and everything she can do to make his life miserable. Fortunately the kids are old enough now to see how she is, and choose to stay with my brother.

It just bothers me to see how ungrateful she is, when she could very well have ended up marrying someone who wouldn't even care for his biological kid, let alone two kids who aren't.

My brother's new wife has two kids from her first marriage, and my brother and her have a baby together, so my brother's he's raising six kids of which only two are his biological children. I give him a lot of credit for it.

Perhaps with your dad being ill, he'll have time to think about what he did wrong in his relationship with your and your brothers.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

P.S. The table runner colors remind me of Mary Englebreit art work (if you're familiar with her work). I think she has a line of fabric out.
